Noah is known in the Bible as a man chosen by God to build an ark and board two of every animal before the Great Flood. The Noah clan are all descendants of this one man and are thought to be granted special abilities by God, being that they're the "superior" race. However, Noah aren't just born as a Noah. They are born a completely normal human, with normal human parents, and relatively live a normal human life.

Later on in life is when the Noah finally shows itself. It starts with nothing more than strange dreams and visions of all of the first Noah's memories during his time. Depending on the new Noah's specific memory, their dreams and visions will vastly differ from another Noah. Sometimes the visions can be absolutely horrifying and other times they can be quite pleasant. The visions last for almost a month before the Noah goes to the second stage: Noah Form.

Noah Form, also known as Black Form, is really the only way to distinguish a Noah from a normal human. In Black Form, the skin is an ashen grey pallor that people only see on the deceased. Around the forehead is a ring of black crosses that looks like they have been carved into the skin. What many people don't know is, when the Noah first enters Black Form, these crosses bleed out, leaving the scars. Finally, the irises of the eyes become a golden yellow color. Sometimes, but not always, a new outfit will be worn in Black Form. Noah are able to switch between Black Form and White Form (also known as "Human Form") whenever they wish.

Going into Noah Form is the final stage of awakening. At that point, either the Millennium Earl or an older Noah will appear to the new Noah and convince him/her to join the "family". Being that all Noah have a connection to one another, it is impossible to refuse their offer.

The Noah clan, much like the Millennium Earl, is still hugely mysterious. It is said that the clan consists of 14 Noah and 13 memories of Noah. However, only a few memories are known.
